Know Your School Day

Have you ever experienced to be the teacher of your own classmates? Or have you experienced the hardness of the teachers when they are still applying for a job?

UP High School Cebu conducted an activity in relation to the teachers and student’s task in school. This activity is called the “ Know Your School Day ”. This activity serves as the chance of the teachers to have a rest in their teaching job. They will be replaced by a student who applied for their positions. At that time, we were able to experience the hardness of lining up in applying a position for teacher. We also have a form which looks like bio data. You will line up to the teacher where you want to take his or her position.

In my case, I applied for two subjects: PE and Science A or the General Science. I chose PE because the topic a that time is badminton and I really do like that sport. I applied not because I like the game but because I also want to share what I have known when I am still in graders because I already joined some trainings dealing with that game. In Science A or General Science, I applied here because I like the subject and I also find I interesting. And so, I applied in those subjects mentioned. Unfortunately, I was not chosen as a Science A teacher by our mentor in that subject, Madam Erlinda Bravo Gallo. But in PE, it was really the opposite event, together with Jayza, also a badminton player, we approached our subject teacher Ms. Jo Ann Maquilan. We tell her what our purpose is. Then she only asked us if we were a badminton player. Then we just answer “Yes, we were”. We were very astonished because Ms. Maquilan immediately checked the space which indicates that we were already accepted. For short, it was an instant job.

So, together with Jayza and other two teachers, we taught our classmates and batch mates. But before that, Ms. Maquilan called us for a conversation. She instructed us what to do. At that time, we conducted a practical exam in Service in badminton. It was really fun. But I also realized that being a teacher is no that easy. You should know how to discipline your students in the sense hat you should know how to control them. Control no in the sense that you will abuse your own students but to teach them the right conduct. Of course, you will teach them how to respect you. Even though you are just a student but still you are doing the role of a teacher.

It was a wonderful experience for me. It was really a rare one. But at least I have experienced once. I know that next year there will be another activity like that. I will make sure that I can get a job so that I can again experience being a teacher. Maybe we do not know that someday, because of that activity, I will learn to like teaching and take Education when I graduated high school.
